8/17/22 – This is an excellent example of a 1944 Steyr-made K98 rifle with a rare “bnz” factory code. All of the numbered parts are matching, and it has the proper military acceptance proofs throughout. The floor plate and trigger group have “byf” Mauser factory codes, so they were likely replaced. The rear barrel band was replaced. The stock is un-numbered and was likely replaced – there is a waffen proof on the right side of the butt stock that was likely reapplied. The bayonet lug is missing a screw and moves freely. The rear barrel band does not lock in, so both barrel bands move freely as well. Overall, the gun is in excellent condition. There is minor muzzle wear and light spotty oxidation on the barrel and receiver. Brown patina on the floor plate and trigger group. The wood stock is excellent. There are small wood repairs on the underside of the butt stock and underside of the stock just behind the rear barrel band. The gun comes with an excellent leather sling and muzzle cap. Excellent bore – shiny with strong rifling.
