10/23/23 – This Mauser K98 was originally manufactured for the German Military by Mauser in 1944, as evidenced by the byf and 44 stamped on top the breach. The metal parts were evidently re-blued / dipped after Russian capture. German proof stamps are still visible on the left side of the breech. Serial numbers were etched into the top of the bolt and near the bolt handle, as well as the magazine base plate. Two capture screws are missing from the front and rear of the trigger guard. Butt plate is stamped ‘brg’. Wood stock is in great shape and has been refinished and stamped with the serial number on the left side. Bore is great with strong rifling and rates 7.5-8 of 10. Functions normally with smooth, tight action. Import marked just under the muzzle.
