12/30/22 – This is a nice example of a matching K98 bayonet issued to the German military during WW2. The blade is in good condition retaining a majority of its blued finish. The blade edge appears to be unsharpened but does show some finish loss on the blade’s left face and some dings in the blade’s edge. There is some thinning/finish loss on both faces of the blade toward the tip, typical of normal use wear. In the same area there are small patches of pitting on each face of the blade as well. The Blade is maker marked “E.u.F.Horster”, 1940 date marked “40”, and serial numbered “6162k”. The handle and pommel feature the correct proof-marks and are in good condition, but have oxidation throughout. The release button is stiff but functional. The metal sheath and leather frog are in fair condition. The leather has signs of age and use wear throughout, and the leather is split on the right side. The stitching appears original and is intact. The metal of the sheath has oxidation throughout and is missing the frog stud. The sheath is serial numbered “6162k”. Overall the bayonet is in very good condition.
