2/9/23 – This is an original Mauser 1940 “42 Code” K98 rifle from WW2. The rifle is all original and period correct with a mismatching numbered bolt. The bolt is matching to itself however, and is properly proof stamped with Mauser eagle 655 military acceptance stamps. The rest of the numbered parts are matching. The metal rates at around 80% overall condition. Although there isn’t very much finish loss, there’s dark patina mixed throughout the finish as well as areas of general thinning to the original finish throughout the barrel, bolt, and high edges of the rifle. The wood stock is waffen acceptance proof stamped, but no serial numbers are visible. This is likely the original stock, but the numbers have either been sanded or they’ve faded out of the wood with time. The stock has a few typical bumps and bruises from age and use wear, but no major cracks or chips. Mechanically sound with a functional bore. The bore has strong rifling with dark patina and some roughness within the grooves, but this shouldn’t affect functionality or accuracy.
