12/27/23 – This is a near-excellent condition 1939 dated K98 bayonet with a matching numbered scabbard and leather frog. The bayonet features a plumb colored blade that’s in excellent condition. The blade is very clean with minimal surface wear and no signs of sharpening. Maker stamped on one side, and serial numbered 891h on the other. The spine of the blade is dated “39”. Gebruder Heller produced around 100,000 K98 bayonets during 1939, and about 170k total during WW2. Typical surface patina and mild finish loss on the hand guard and bird’s head pommel. The scabbard has finish loss and thinning throughout, as well as browning patina as shown. Matching numbered near the mouth of the scabbard, with a maker and date stamp on the other side. No dents and fits nicely. The leather frog is missing the secure strap, but is otherwise in good condition.
