4/26/23 – This is a nice example of an Erfurt Karabiner 98 issued to the Imperial German Army in 1918. It is all matching and has the proper Imperial proofs throughout. It has a “1920” stamp on the receiver. This is a government property mark that indicated the gun remained in government service after the war. This was required by Germany to comply with the Treaty of Versailles. The metal parts have retained roughly 85% of their bluing. Generally, there is high edge wear and some wear around the muzzle and on the barrel bands. Some light spotty brown patina on the receiver. There are some areas where a thin layer of wood lacquer bled onto the metal parts. Spotty oxidation on the butt plate. There is no major damage to the stock, but there are noticeable dings and bruises throughout. The wood has been lacquered. Very nice bore with good rifling.
