11/18/22 – This is a very nice example of a Mauser Gewehr 98 rifle issued to the Imperial German military in 1917. The gun is mostly matching, but the bolt release lever and butt plate are mismatched, and the bolt handle is not numbered. The stock has no markings – likely replaced. The right side of the barrel is marked “S/42” and “P74”, indicating it was reworked and re-issued to the Nazi military during WW2. The gun has been arsenal-refinished and has retained about 95% of its bluing. There is minor muzzle wear and wear on the barrel bands. A few light handling marks and scratches here and there. Spotty oxidation on the butt plate. Minty wood stock with a few small dings here and there and a wood repair on the right side of the butt stock. The bore has good rifling, but there are some tiny pits in the grooves. Comes with cleaning rod.
