8/21/23 – This is a WW1 original German Gewehr 98 Butcher Bayonet. The bayonet is in great overall condition, especially considering its’ age. The blade is in great condition, near excellent with some dark spotty surface patina and light oxidation. There’s evidence of light sharpening along the edge as well. The spine of the blade is Imperial proof stamped and 1917 dated. The base of the blade is maker stamped. The cross guard and metal portion of the handle / pommel is in good condition with dark brown surface patina throughout. The wood handles are in great condition with no cracks or chips. Comes with an original metal scabbard that’s Imperial proof stamped at the mouth. There’s light freckling patina throughout the metal but no dents. The leather frog is cut down at the top, but appears to have been attached to the scabbard for quite some time.
