6/23/23 – This is a very nice example of an Amberg Gewehr 98 rifle issued to the Imperial German military in 1917. The gun is mostly mismatched. The right side of the barrel is marked “S/42” and “K 155”, indicating it was reworked and re-issued to the Nazi military during WW2. The gun has been arsenal-refinished and has retained about 93% of its bluing. There is wear on the barrel bands and around the high edges in general. Freckling on most of the metal parts. The stock is un-numbered but has very faint Imperial proofs on the right side of the butt stock. It was likely lightly sanded. There is a rectangular gouge on the right side of the front hand guard and some light surface cracking in the wood on the underside of the butt stock. The rifling in the bore is fairly worn with pin-pricking throughout. Comes with brass muzzle cap.
