1/28/22 – This is a nice example of an Amberg Gewehr 98. It was initially issued to the Imperial German military in 1917. It has the proper Imperial proofs throughout. It was then reworked and issued to the Nazi military, as evidenced by the Nazi military wafffen proofs on the receiver and the right side of the barrel. The barrel is also marked with a “G Date” Mauser proof, “S/42G”, indicating the barrel was replaced. The wood stock has Imperial proofs but also has Weimar-era military proofs. Comes with a cleaning rod. The gun is entirely matching (including the stock), except for a few small parts at the back of the bolt. There is heavy brown patina and spotty oxidation on virtually all of the metal parts. The stock has noticeable dings, dents, and scratches throughout with a few more noticeable gouges on the butt stock. There is a rectangular wood repair on the right side of the butt stock. The bore is shiny with strong rifling and some minor oxidation near the muzzle.
