2/1/22 – This is a nice example of an Amberg Gewehr 98 rifle issued to the Imperial German military in 1917. The gun is mostly matching (including the stock, rear sight, and butt plate) except for bolt, follower, and floor plate. Comes with an original cleaning rod and leather sling. It has the proper Imperial German proofs throughout, including on the wood stock. Some of the parts have lost most of their finish including the receiver, barrel bands, bolt, floor plate, and trigger group. Small dots of oxidation covering most of the metal parts. There is an area of pitting on the left side of the barrel and on the left side of the front barrel band. Some spotty oxidation and a few small spots of light surface rust on the butt plate. The stock is very nice with only minor dings, dents, and bruises here and there. The bore is shiny with good rifling with very minor pin-pricking in the grooves.
