6/3/22 – This is an original 1916 dated WW1 German Gewehr rifle bayonet. The bayonet is in good overall condition. The blade has some mild surface discoloration and oxidation, and the edge shows mild signs of sharpening. The spine of the blade is imperial proof stamped and 1916 dated. The ricasso is maker stamped, but part of this marking is no longer legible. The wood handle is aged but not damaged. There’s some typical surface patina on the metal hand guard and pommel. The pommel also has the added numbers 5397 stamped into the metal. The scabbard is unmarked and slightly dented with small surface dents throughout. There’s dark patina throughout the metal as well. The attached leather frog is maker stamped and dated on the back. Nice leather and stitching.
