8/30/23 – This is a CG Haenel-made Gewehr 98 rifle issued to the Imperial German military in 1916. It is entirely matching with the proper Imperial proofs throughout. The stock is Imperial-proofed and matching-numbered, but it has been sanded, so the markings are faint. It comes with a Simson-made unit marked bayonet with leather scabbard. The tip of the leather scabbard has ripped off. The metal parts of the gun itself have retained roughly 60% of their finish. There is thinning and noticeable spotty oxidation throughout. There are some areas of pitting, most noticeable on the receiver, on the floor plate, and on the butt plate. Excellent sanded stock. The bore has decent rifling, but there is surface oxidation and minor pitting throughout. Comes with a reproduction leather sling.
