11/18/22 – This is a C.G. Haenel Kar 88 carbine issued to the Imperial German military in 1892. These handy carbines were initially made for Cavalry use these saw service into WW1 with other support groups. This one is all matching except for the bolt and has a faint unit marking on the front barrel band. The stock is Imperial-proofed but has no visible numbering. There are some strange markings on the receiver – we’re not quite sure what they mean. The gun has lost virtually all of its original finish with areas of heavy spotty oxidation throughout – worst on the butt plate. The stock is worn but has no major damage. There are obvious dings, dents, and bruises throughout. The bore is poor – the rifling is worn, and there is heavy oxidation and pitting throughout.
