Alexander Coppel (Alcoso)
Bayonet
WW2
090324-2-AB

9/6/24 – This is a great example of a Rural Police bayonet made by Alexander Coppel, better known as Alcoso. The blade of this bayonet is in great condition with 99% of its polished finish still being intact. There are a few spots of finish loss, with two on the spine of the blade and one near the edge. The blade maintains it’s original edge and the makers stamps on the blade are still present and strong. The grips on this bayonet are made of stag horn, with eagle and swastika still present. The eagle and swastika is loose, but is still attached. The pommel on this bayonet has the standard deep engraved eagle motif. The flat side of the pommel, back of the eagles head, does have a decent amount of marks. The scabbard for this bayonet is in great condition with no cracks or damage to the leather. The metal mounts are held onto the scabbard using staples which is standard for these bayonets. The mounts are in great condition maintaining almost all of their polished finish, both mounts do have minor wear common with age. The leather frog is still pliable and in great condition, with only two cuts on the back. These cuts do not go through the frog and do not effect its integrity. Both the bayonet and scabbard are marked “S. Kg. 1325”. These markings not only indicate that this is a matching set, but also that this bayonet was issued to the Rural Police in Koenigsberg, which is today known as Kaliningrad, Russia.
