9/7/23 – This is an original French Gras M1874 bayonet with an original matching numbered scabbard. The bayonet blade is in great overall condition with some mild surface patina and a concentration of speckling patina near the base. The edge is unsharpened and has a few very minor dings but no major issues. Small proofs are found on the ricasso. Blade measures 52cm long. Overall length is 64.2cm (without the scabbard). The spine of the blade is maker marked as shown. The hooked cross guard or “quillion” is stamped with a serial number 10297, which is matching to the number stamped on the belt ring of the scabbard. Very rare to find bayonets this old with the original matching scabbard! The hand guard and pommel show mild surface patina and natural aging. The scabbard has speckling patina and mild wear mixed within the original finish, which is in great overall condition.
