8/10/17 – At first glance, this looks like an all original and all matching HK, in very nice condition. But there are some things about it that are not typical. It came from a family member of the vet who brought it home and he swears that the gun has never been “messed with” since 1945. I believe him as there would be NO reason to alter the gun in the way it has been numbered. So first, the finish is original and in about 96% condition. Straw color small parts are the same. It has correct Krieghoff proof marks, but there are additional serial numbers on the gun. The frame and barrel are matching. The sideplate is numbered correctly in the HK style INSIDE the part but also on the exterior. The exterior number was done after the metal hardened (as seen by the dent). The toggle was also numbered on the top and the inside. The hold open was also HK proofed and numbered. The firing pin is HK marked and numbered. So why was this 1937 Krieghoff additionally numbered? I believe it was issued as usual to the Luftwaffe, but then later diverted to a Police unit and arsenal numbered by them. Can’t prove it but that is my best educated guess. Interestingly, the magazine is a Mauser mag, but also renumbered in the police style. Priced accordingly.
