9/24/24 – This is an absolutely gorgeous, engraved WW2 Colt or US&S (serial number could be correct for either) Model 1911A1 pistol. It features a deep and detailed Germanic oak leaf and acorn engraving pattern with reliefs of a Grizzly bear on the left side of the slide and Mountain Lion on the right side – both show faint gold gilding. The entire gun has a beautiful silver-plated finish. It is fitted with engraved real ivory grips – there is a wild boar on the right side and an elk on the left. Comes with a magazine that is also engraved on the base. We were told that this engraving was done in Germany just after the end of WW2, as evidenced by the Germanic oak leaf and acorn style. We do not know who did this work, but it was clearly done by a master engraver – some of the best, most detailed work we’ve seen. No markings are visible except for the serial number, which has been moved to the base of the front strap. Besides the thinning in the gold wash on the animals, this gun shows very little sign of wear. Near-mint bore.
