8/28/24 – This is a nice example of a Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor rifle, chambered in .45-70. The serial number is 155463, which dates the receiver to about 1874. There is a military cartouche on the left side of the stock. It is visible but there is a small chip at the same location. There is also a “P” just behind the trigger guard. The lock plate shows a distinct “Springfield” and eagle logo. There are US military inspection proofs on the breech and the barrel. Overall, the gun is in very good condition, but it is missing the cleaning rod. It has lost most of its original finish with spotty oxidation and brown patina covering all of the metal parts. Strong hammer spring and fully functional. The bayonet is US marked near the hilt.
