8/15/24 – This is a Luftwaffe Flieger-Leuchtpistole L or Aviators Flare Gun Type L. These double-barreled, 26.5mm (4 Bore) signal pistols were issued to Luftwaffe aircrews. This example is marked with the maker code fzs; the code assigned to the famous Krieghoff firearms company in Ulm, Germany. The ordnance code is located under the date 1943 to the rear of the safety lever on the left side of the frame. The frame is also serial numbered on each side. Interestingly, there’s a factory error on one side where the serial number is missing one of the 4’s. (One side is 24483, while the other is only 2483). Both stamps are definitely factory and 100% original. The serial number is also found at the top of each trigger. The tops of the barrels are both marked with a 4 in a circle (4-Bore) over the Luftwaffe Eagle acceptance mark. This same acceptance proof is found on the rear of the receiver between the barrel selector switch “L” and “R”. Functionally excellent and fully operational with excellent original later-wartime finish throughout. Some light surface scuffs and high-edge wear. There’s mild corrosion in the bores, but this is minor and shouldn’t affect functionality. Excellent, sharp original grips. This example was brought to us by the family of a Veteran.
