6/25/24 – This is an original WW2 production K98 bayonet with the original matching serial numbered scabbard, and a rare variation Deutsche Afrika Korps (DAK) canvas frog. The bayonet blade is excellent with minimal finish loss and all original bluing. There’s light scabbard rub wear which led to finish loss near the tip and on the high edges of the blood groove. The blade edge is clean and unsharpened. The base of the blade is serial numbered (7645gg) on one side, and maker stamped on the reverse (asw43) for E. & F. Horster, 1943. The hand guard has light patina but overall the hilt / pommel area is excellent with beautiful finish and proper military proof stamps. Excellent wood grip panels as well. The scabbard has dark patina and spots of discoloration mixed within the original blued finish. The backside of the scabbard has a concentration of wear near the toe / tip. No dents and properly matching serial numbered and maker stamped. The canvas frog is in great condition with a few light surface stains but overall clean with normal pliability and all original stitching intact.
