6/15/24 – This is an excellent condition example 1938 K98 bayonet with a matching numbered scabbard. The bayonet also comes with a nice 1939 dated leather frog and an olive green and brown colored portepee. The bayonet blade is very clean with minimal surface wear and light finish loss. The edge has been sharpened and has a few small nicks and imperfections from use. Maker stamped on one side of the ricasso, and serial numbered 1100j on the reverse. The spine of the blade is dated. Excellent bluing on the hand guard and pommel. The spine of the hilt has a few small dings and dents likely from hammering something (a common flaw). The scabbard has excellent finish throughout with minimal patina and is matching numbered and maker stamped. The leather frog is in great condition with a maker and date on the backside. The portepee is stamped “R.R. 15” on the interior of the leather chord, and the knot is cloth. A very nice and complete example overall.
