6/12/24 – This is an original 1906 dated Gewehr 98 sword bayonet with an original scabbard and leather frog. The bayonet blade measures about 20.5 inches long, and overall length is about 25.75 inches. The blade is in great condition with a few small spots of dark surface oxidation and natural surface aging. There’s some pinpricking and wear located around the tip on each side. The edge shows light signs of sharpening and use but is clean and uniform. Maker stamped at the base of the blade. The spine of the blade is dated and proof stamped. The hand guard and pommel have light surface patina but no rust or pitting. Imperial proofed on the pommel and spine of the hilt as shown. The scabbard is in great condition, all original with Imperial proofs on the mouth. The leather frog is unmarked. A very nice, early example!
