5/23/24 – This is a rare variation, early WW2 production DLV Flier’s Knife. The DLV was a secret military organization disguised as a “sport group”, which was made up military flight training and pilot training units. The DLV disbanded in 1937, succeeded by the NSFK. This example shows true age and honest wear throughout, without any major structural or functional issues. The blade shows dark surface oxidation, which is speckling throughout the surface of the blade. None of this wear has texture, nor is there any rust or pitting. Visible cross graining is still present throughout as well. The blade is maker stamped SMF on one side. The base of the blade retains the original leather stopper as well. The cross guard is missing most of the finish, though traces still remain. The underside of the cross guard is personalized with a unit marking of some kind, “T.S.1” and “353”. The handle has surface scuffing and small areas where the surface of blue-stretched leather is worn, but the original leather is still secure and intact. Comes with an original scabbard that is also personalized on the mouth with a unit stamp, “N 419”. There’s light surface wear and a small area of missing leather near the toe of the scabbard. No dents and excellent fit. Comes with an original attached belt hanger as well. Guaranteed original, and priced based on condition. This is a great example with for those who collect pieces with character.
