U-Boat Visor
WW2
051424-1

5/15/24 – This is a uniquely rare bit of WW2 history – the Kriegsmarine visor that belonged to the commander of U-Boat 505 and was captured by Capt. D.V. Gallery. U-505 was the only German submarine captured at sea and it is currently on display at the Chicago Museum of Science & Technology. The cap was purchased in the 70s by collector Ron Wolin from the XO of USS Guadalcanal (flagship of forces that captured U-505). The seller saw the cap and handwritten note from the XO (Jesse Johnson) about the cap and how he got it many times in the 90s. The listing is accompanied by two written affidavits from U.S. military veterans that personally examined the sets in Wolin’s collection. Wolin’s personal collection included some truly incredible pieces of history and is well known among collectors, with his collection being sold by Kelly Hicks of SS Steel. The visor itself is in very good condition with visible staining/sweat marks but no major material defects. More details about Wolin and how he came into possession of this visor, along with a book on the history of U-Boat 505 are included with the listing.
