5/7/24 – This is an original Imperial Russian (WW1) Model 1917 Chemical Hand Grenade. These were filled mostly with Chloropicrin, a toxic tear gas capable of penetrating standard gas masks. The M1917 is slightly larger than the M1914. Used during WW1 and in the Russian Civil War. The tube of this example has a skull and crossbones logo with the Russian word for Chemical underneath the logo. Though inert, this example has a functional release lever on the handle and all exterior parts intact. There’s some crude weld markings and mild patina throughout, but this example is in good overall condition. Measures about 24.6cm long and a top cylindrical diameter of about 6.7cm.
