5/2/24 – This is an original, rare test trial 1900 Krag Bowie Bayonet. These were produced by Springfield with intention to replace a standard style rifle bayonet. The purpose was to act as more of a utility knife as well as a bayonet. Measures 13.5 inches overall with a 9 inch blade. The blade has natural aging and spotty oxidation discoloration throughout. Some areas of pitting near the tip, and the right side showing slightly more oxidation / wear than the left side. The right side is “U.S.” marked and the left side is “1900” marked at the base. Natural patina and honest age wear on the hand guard and pommel. Original wood grips have a few mild chips and imperfections, notably near the front and back “spines” of the grip panels. No sheath included.
