2/28/24 – This is a rare USMC officer’s model Smith & Wesson M&P revolver from about 1953. These M&P’s were procured for the U.S. Marines by the U.S. Army at the Springfield Ordnance District. There were limited orders that were shipped to both Barsow or Came LeJeune. Matching and chambered in .38 Special. There is a military “P” proof on the left side of the frame and a “US Property” marking on the back strap. There is also a “WRPD #6” marking scratched on the inner edge of the frame – we assume added later. The original high polish finish rates roughly 80%. The majority of the wear is on the grip straps, but there is also wear concentrated around the muzzle and around the high edges. Tiny scratches and handling marks throughout. Fitted with hand-checkered wood grips. Minty bore.
