12/27/23 – This is a very rare, high condition and well marked example of a hard shell 1944 P.38 holster. Most P.38 holsters made in 1944 were soft shell style, making this a desirable example. This example is also desirable because of the condition and the quality of the markings. The back leather is “gmo” maker stamped with a “4” date code for 1944. There’s also a RBNr. stamp which is a depot / distribution code used by the Germans starting in 1943. The back leather is also waffen proof stamped and P.38 stamped. Most 1944 hard shell examples on the market today are very worn, but this example is in great condition with very clean interior leather. The exterior leather has some wrinkling on the closure strap, front leather, and top area of the back leather, but this is light surface wear. The back horizontal line of stitching appears to be missing 2 stitches, but otherwise the stitching is excellent and all original. Normal pliability but holds shape nicely.
