12/6/23 – This is a rare Mixed Parts P.38! Walther and Mauser parts with no serial number. This is a known and documented variation. It is a Late Date AC Frame P.38 (armorers replacement frame from Walther). Then, it has a Mauser byf 44 slide with NO serial numbers. Frame has the copper color to it found on some Walther AC late war guns. The barrel and locking block have no numbers on them either, however the barrel is 135 proofed (Mauser) and the locking block is 359 proofed (Walther). It’s a well-documented, but little a known category of P.38’s. These guns were made in 1945 towards the end. The general speculation is that these guns were not made at the main Walther or Mauser factories. In an effort to increase production, labor services were sought outside of the factories, with any parts they could get. Much of which were spare, salvaged or armorer’s parts. One theory is they were built using camp labor at the Neuengamme Concentration Camp. The magazine is Mauser WaA135 marked. The original finish rated at about 95% and the bore has strong rifling but cloudiness to it. Rates about 7 out of 10.
