11/17/23 – This is a Luger with a lot of history. Originally this pistol was part of the Dutch contract for Lugers just before the start of WW2. The toggle is marked DWM, but most likely the gun was put together in the Mauser factory. Then when Germany occupied Holland they seized all weapons. Most likely this Luger ended up at the Eastern front where it was then captured by the Russians. This is evidenced by the “X” on the frame just above the serial number (iconic Russian “X”). This luger was then imported into the US, as a strong market of collectors emerged and thousands of lugers were sent to the United States to meet this demand. Despite the many hands and countries this pistol has likely visited, the finish (incredibly) looks original and doesn’t show signs of refinish. We rate around 92%, because although there isn’t much finish loss, there’s light patina and speckling wear mixed throughout the finish. Bluing and straw parts have similar wear patterns. If anything, we think the barrel might be refinished. The barrel is also import stamped on the underside. Comes with a wood base, unmarked WW1 era luger magazine. One grip is un-numbered and the other grip panel is numbered but not matching. The bore is very good with strong rifling and some mild patina and surface wear within the grooves (7.5/10). Overall an interested Dutch Luger example.
