10/27/23 – This is an original 1800’s British Flintlock Pistol. Considered a “New Land Pattern” flintlock, widely used by the British during the Napoleonic Wars and War of 1812. This example is a bit later as it is dated on the wood “1831”. It is marked “TOWER” vertically at the tail of the lock, St. Edward’s Crown over “GR” (George Rex) on the lock at center, small proof and property marks on the lock, barrel, and stock. The proof marks include crown over crossed swords, crown over GR, and crown over V. Also, on the bottom of the trigger guard is a very unusual marking “Q.O.R Y.C 165”. We are not sure of the meaning of this marking, but we’re assuming it’s a unit mark. The condition is very good considering the age. There is lots of aged finish remaining on the barrel and the brass is bright. Natural patina and aging throughout the metal parts, but no deep rust or pitting. The stock is also good and has a coat of varnish, as well as scattered dents, dings, and scratches throughout. Mechanically it seems very good with a leather piece and flint still intact. The flint produces sparks when dry fired. If one is brave enough, we’re sure it would shoot!
