9/6/23 – This is an original WW2 production 2nd model Luftwaffe dagger. The dagger comes with an original scabbard, portepee and hanger. The dagger blade is well marked with a “SMF” maker stamp and logo on the backside of the blade. Above this maker marking is a Luftwaffe proof stamp, droop winged eagle/5. The blade shows light surface scratches and buff marks, along with speckling surface patina and discoloration. The edges are unsharpened and free of nicks or dents. The hand guard ahs very nice detail and some traces of original finish but mostly a natural aged look. The portepee is tight and clean throughout; excellent overall. The bakelite handle has no cracks or chips and a nicely wrapped silver chording. The pommel is excellent, maintaining the original gold coloring in the swastika and a great amount of original finish. Some typical high edge wear. The scabbard retains some of the original finish and is excellent overall. The hanger is in excellent condition as well, with a leather tab attached and “DRGM” stamped on the hanger clip.
