8/16/23 – This is a very nice example of a Savage-made Enfield No 4 Mk 1* rifle, manufactured in 1942. It is all matching, “US Property” marked, and has flaming bomb proofs. There is a “U with arrow” marking on the receiver, indicating it was part of the South African contract. The metal parts have retained roughly 70% of their finish with general muzzle and high edge wear and minor thinning throughout. There is a small area of oxidation and minor pitting on the left side of the magazine. The wood furniture shows obvious dings, dents, and bruises throughout. Rack number on the right side of the butt stock. Comes with a canvas sling. The rifling in the bore is a bit worn with tiny pitting throughout.
