7/24/23 – This is a nice example of a Springfield Krag Model 1896. The serial number on the receiver dates it to 1898, making it an antique. The wrist of the stock has a crisp “P” proof, but there is no visible military cartouche. Overall, there is not much actual finish loss on the metal parts, but there is fairly heavy brown patina covering most of the gun and some light spotty oxidation on the receiver. Very nice wood furniture with only minor bruising and scratching here and there. The bore has decent rifling, but there is tiny pitting and light spotty surface oxidation throughout.
