6/30/23 – This is a rare and original Type 97 Japanese sniper rifle, one of only 15,000 Nagoya Arsenal made from 1938-45. These were based on the Type 38 rifle, and when fired, the mild 6.5x50mm Arisaka cartridge gave off little flash or smoke and made counter-sniper activity difficult. This particular rifle is all matching numbers throughout, including the bolt assembly and dust cover. It also has the full mum intact. The finish on the metal parts is original and doesn’t show a ton of finish loss, but shows notable areas of pitting, rust and/or oxidation. Monopod, cleaning rod and original sling are all present. Excellent, shiny bore. The stock is in good condition aside from a small hole on the left side, just behind the rear band. The scope has minor flaking of the finish, but the optics are clear and crisp.
