6/15/23 – This is a 1943 production K98 rifle bayonet with a matching numbered scabbard and original leather frog. The bayonet blade is in great overall condition with some areas of surface patina and beginning signs of surface rust, along with finish loss mostly near the tip. The base of the blade is marked with a maker code, date, and serial numbered 5942t. The scabbard is matching numbered near the mouth, as shown. The wood handle of the bayonet is excellent with no cracks or chips. The pommel and hand guard both have finish loss and surface patina but no major flaws. The scabbard is free of dents but has dark surface patina throughout. The leather frog has some loose and missing stitching in the back, but is still completely intact and secure. There’s a faint maker and date stamp on the back of the frog.
