6/6/23 – This is a nice example of a very early Springfield Model 1903, manufactured in 1903, the first year of production. The barrel is a Springfield replacement dated January of 1921. The stock has a faint P proof and a faint “WES” (W. E. Strong) inspection stamp on the left side of the stock. Comes with a front sight hood and a nice reproduction leather sling. The metal parts have retained roughly 60% of their finish. There is thinning, discoloration, and minor pitting on virtually the whole receiver and on the bolt. Noticeable finish loss and patina on the front barrel band. Excellent wood furniture, but it has been lightly sanded. The bore is minty.
