6/2/23 – This is an original Luftwaffe Officer Visor Cap for the Signal Corps. The blue-grey wool exterior is excellent and clean with no moth holes or notable areas of wear. The brown pitping throughout the visor exterior is also excellent and clean. There’s one small area of “chew” marks near the back brim of the crown piping. The exterior visor band is clean and tight, with an attached aluminum cockade wrapped in an oak leaf wreath with wings. The Luftwaffe eagle is aluminum as well. Both are crisp and clean with excellent detail. The original chinstrap and visor show minimal surface wear and have a shiny black lacquered finish. There’s some minor wear along the interior brim edge, where the black leather wraps around the green interior side of the brim. The interior leather headband is clean and securely intact. The light brown interior is clean, although the celluloid moisture shield is missing and appears to have been intentionally removed at some point. The size, “55” ink stamp is still visible, as is the maker marking. These are faded with age but still visible as shown.
