5/23/23 – This is a rare, engraved Colt 1849 Pocket revolver from 1853. Original finish with 40-50% of the blue remaining. All numbers match but the font is somewhat different on the barrel extension so it may have been re-worked but we can’t say for certain. Engraved with silver plate finish on the grip frame and factory ivory grips. Produced in 1853, this revolver would be from the Gustav Young period. We believe it may not be factory engraved as the single line address on the barrel isn’t correct for this serial range, and usually the engraving would continue into this area. There are animal heads are incorporated on the sides of the hammer nose, the right of the frame and the left of the barrel. Unfortunately, Colt’s records for this pistol have been lost to time, so we cannot confirm either way. There is some case color in protected areas such as the top of the loading lever. The grip frame has lost silver finish on the side flats and the backstrap, with some remaining silver plate in the trigger guard and frontstrap. The bore has decent rifling but frost throughout and a notable patch of pitting. Excellent one-piece ivory grips with no notable defects. Comes with the American Eagle powder flask and the bullet mold tool. Timing and lockup appear fine.
