4/26/23 – This is a clean example of a Civil War era Model 1863 Springfield Rifled Musket. The lock plate is marked “US Springfield 1863” with the iconic Eagle stamp. The buttplate is stamped “US” on the top. The barrel features the V, P, and Eagle head acceptance stamp. Stock has numerous dings, and has letters etched into the side of the buttplate. The metal finish has oxidation throughout, from the buttplate to the muzzle. This musket is a Type 1, featuring the clamp barrel bands and the 3-leaf rear sight. The bore is dark with visible rifling, and some there are remnants of pitting at the muzzle.
