3/6/23 – This is an original Type 97 Japanese Naval Officer Sword from WW2. The sword blade is stamped with an anchor logo on the tang, which is a naval stamp, often associated with machine-made blades or non-traditionally handmade blades. The blade measures approx. 62cm long (not including the tang, measured from the tip to the beginning of the brass sleeve on the spine). The tempered edge is straight and uniform along the edge of the blade. There’s some mild rub wear near the tip or Kissaki of the blade. Each side of the blade shows a few mild surface scratches and imperfections, but no notable discoloration. There’s also no imperfections along the edge. The brass ricasso / sleeve at the base of the blade, and tsuba spacers show surface discoloration and mild aging. The tang, spacers, ricasso sleeve, and tsuba are all matching numbered 361, as shown. The handle has a nice original wrap and is in good condition with typical surface wear and aging. Comes with an original scabbard that’s in great overall condition as well.
