1/23/23 – This is a rare and very unusual DWM Luger with little documented facts on the variation. The pistol appears outwardly as a commercial 1920s variation of the DWM Luger in 7.65mm caliber. . The barrel extension is stamped in small letters; “FRANKENSCHLOSS- SUHL” and the top of the chamber area has been marked with the “Lithuanian Crest” (Pillars of Gediminas) as seen the Lithuanian contract Browning High Power pistols. The theory on these very unusual or rare Lugers is that they were actually early commercial lugers that were purchased or owned by the small Baltic country of Lithuania on the Baltic Sea, (prior to being taken over by Russia) . The Lithuanian government issued a contract to the small shop of Frankenschloss in Suhl, German in the providence of Thüringen to rework or rebarrel these in the late 1930s or early 1940s. There is no documented proof on this theory, however several have been reported over the years, with the story being that they were liberated during the post Cold War years from Lithuanian Border Guards. The finish on this pistol is in terrific condition with minimal edge wear. The bore has strong rifling but a little frost in the grooves. Excellent, unmarked grips. Magazine base is also unmarked. The pistol has a mix of Crown/N and Eagle/N proofs and matching numbers throughout.
