12/1/22 – This is an original 1939 dated K98 bayonet with a matching numbered scabbard. The bayonet blade is in excellent condition with very clean original bluing throughout. There is some mild finish loss near the tip and along the edge of the groove, as shown. No rust or pitting and no signs of sharpening. The ricasso is serial numbered on one side, and maker stamped on the other. The spine of the blade is dated ’39. The spine of the handle has multiple small dings as if someone once used this to hammer something. The pommel and cross guard both have mild surface patina and typical edge wear but no excessive damage. The scabbard has a few small dents and some surface patina and aging throughout. The leather frog has no visible markings or stamps, and has surface wrinkling and scuffing throughout, but is still completely intact.
