10/26/22 – This is an interesting grouping of items brought back from Germany after WW2. It includes an early style Hitler Youth knife, a M35 leather dispatch map case, and the original capture document associated with both items. The Hitler youth knife has features of an earlier example; a thin blade, no ricasso, and “Blut und Ehre!” motto inscription on one side of the blade. The leather stopper is missing. The blade has some surface oxidation throughout as well as wear/use marks on both blade faces and on its edge. The tip of the blade appears to have been sharpened. The right-hand side of the blade is inscribed with “Blut und Ehre!”. The left-hand side of the blade shows a “Tiger Solingen” maker mark as well as a “Gestzl. Geschutzt” marking. The knife’s edge has a chip in it just to the left of the “Gestzl. Geschutzt” marking. The right-hand grip of the hilt is broken as shown. The red detailing and white enamel of the grip’s emblem are cracked and incomplete. The metal hand guard, hilt, and pommel are structurally sound but have patina throughout and small areas of pinpricking. The original scabbard is included but shows surface rust throughout and is missing a majority of its leather as shown. Overall, the knife shows honest use wear. The M35 map case is in great overall condition. The exterior shows use wear throughout with some minor scuffs in the leather here and there. The original carrying sling is intact and secure. There is some ink writing on the back of the case but it is illegible. The closure flap has some wrinkling throughout its folded section. The interior leather is in great condition showing minimal use wear. The inside of the closure flap is marked “Kommando del Fliegerschulen Warnemunde”, “Fliegerschule 1”, “1935”, and “2/Fl.Sch.Wa”. There is a pencil drawing of an individual wearing a feathered headdress as well as some written we can not make out. The German translates roughly to “Commander of the Warnemunde Flight School” and “Flight School 1”. Included within the case are four WW2 era pencils marked : A. W. FABER DESSIN 1386 No 2″ and a 20.5cm wooden ruler marked “Deutfche Luftwaffe” and “Pierschel, Willy Pierschel Katharinaberg”. The original stitching throughout is clean and secure. The included capture document belonging to “S/Sgt. Albert W. Suitt” and indicates a pistol was brought back with this map case and knife, but it is unfortunately no longer with this grouping.
