10/18/22 – This is a WW2 German “Deutsche Reichspost” Leader’s dagger. The DRP was in charge of maintaining security and protection of the post office and third Reich mail communications. They also were in charge of operating newly annexed regions and worked closely with the “Feldpost” military mail service. This DRP Leader’s dagger is in great overall condition with a fairly clean blade made by Paul Weyersberg. The blade has visible cross-graining, but there is cloudy discoloration and scabbard wear on the blade surface as well. The leather stopper is still intact, and the blade is maker stamped on one side as shown. The underside of the cross guard is stamped “DRP” and numbered “767”. The hand guard has some rub wear and surface patina throughout, but the stylized eagle’s head is still visible and the swastika logos still have most of the black enamel finish. The wood handle shows some cracks and has been repaired – as evidenced by the lighter tones in the wood near the base – see photos. The scabbard is in great condition and comes with a chain hanger as shown.
