10/5/22 – This is a nice example of a Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor rifle, chambered in .45-70. The serial number is 70297, which dates the receiver to about 1876. There is a faint military cartouche on the left side of the stock. It is dated, but it is very hard to read. There are US military inspection proofs on the breech and the barrel. This gun also comes with one box of modern .45-70 ammo. There is not much actual finish loss, but there is noticeable brown patina covering most of the metal parts. There is minor muzzle wear, some very light scratching along the barrel, and some tiny dings here and there. Some spotty oxidation around the breech, lock, trigger guard, and butt plate. Very nice wood stock with only minor bruising and scratching here and there – likely lightly sanded. Comes with an original cleaning rod and leather sling. Excellent bore with strong rifling.
