9/1/22 – This is a nice example of a Springfield Krag Model 1896 Carbine manufactured in 1897. The gun is matching, the receiver is “US” property marked, and there is a visible military cartouche on the left side of the stock. The upper handguard appears to have been replaced, and there is a hairline crack in the wood that runs along the top. There is light scratchy wear along the barrel. No finish on the side plate or magazine. There is spotty oxidation on the side plate, magazine, and along the bolt. Heavy brown patina on the butt plate and barrel band. The stock has noticeable dings and bruises throughout. The bore is shiny with good rifling, but there are some areas of minor pin-pricking here and there. Original saddle ring is intact.
