8/3/22 – This is a very nice example of a Model 1898 carbine rifle made by Springfield Armory. One of only 5,000 carbines produced, the rifle features the correct “C” marking on the rear sight, “p” proof on the stock, “JLA” over “1989” cartouche on the left side of the wrist about the trigger, properly cut stock, and saddle ring on the left side of the stock. The original finish is in good condition with some patches of thinning here and there, most noticeably on the side plate of the receiver, the magazine gate, muzzle, bolt, and bolt handle. There is minor oxidation throughout, with a small patch of surface rust on the bottom of the barrel. The wood stock is in good condition and shows minor handling wear throughout. The upper handguard has been replaced, evident by the inconsistency between its texture and sheen with the rest of the stock. The handguard is however a good fit and is secured well. The bore is shiny with good rifling but does have some freckling and frost throughout.
