7/21/22 – This is a very cool capture grouping that comes to us from the daughter of the veteran who brought them back from Japan. Including in this listing are an all matching Arisaka Type 38, including the dust cover, a bayonet, a Type 14 Nambu and original rubberized canvas holster. These items were brought back by Raymond Maguire, who served in the 98th Division, 391st Infantry Regiment, E Company during WW2. This offering includes a signed letter from his daughter, verifying the history of these items and detailing some of his experience in the war. More details are included in the letter, but the main task of the 98th Division as they entered Japan was to disband the Japanese Army by collecting and disposing of their weapons, which obviously leads to the bringback of the items offered here. The rifle is a somewhat hard-to-find example with all matching numbers throughout. The mum is partially ground, and there is some surface rust in a few areas that would likely clean up some with a little additional effort. The bore is shiny with fairly strong rifling and a little frost in the grooves. The stock has standard dings and age/handling wear but no cracks. The Type 14 shows some flaking and holster wear in several areas. It has matching numbers throughout, including the grips but the magazine is from a different pistol. The bore is mint, hardly looks fired. Note that the retaining clip on the front strap is broken. The holster is in very good condition and comes with original cleaning rod.
